Fortress Anchor 69 lbs for boats 69-150'
The Legendary Fortress Anchor
In test after test, from coast to coast and from around the world, no
anchor in history has been called “The World’s Best Anchor” by more
boaters and respected marine experts than Fortress...and for good
reason.
Years of research and development, high-tech materials and
manufacturing and thousands of real world tests are your assurance of
performance, quality, and value. Fortress weighs only half as much as
heavier steel anchors and yet outperforms them all.
Why? Because the Fortress design does not depend upon weight to
provide world class performance. All this adds up to your best value
in anchoring safety and convenience.

Anchor Selection & Specifications Guide
Boat size recommendations are for boats of average windage and
proportions in 30 knots of wind, average bottom conditions, and
moderate protection from open seas. Remember that the loads in 42
knots of wind are twice as much as in 30 knots.
Use three-strand nylon rope, 6-12 ft (2-4 m) of chain and a minimum
of 5:1 scope. Also, a minimum of 6 ft (2 m) of chain should be used
for every 25 ft (8 m) of water depth. For storm conditions use an
anchor one or two sizes larger.

Anchoring Myths and Facts
Myth: The heavier the anchor, the better.....
Fact: Modern designs and state-of-the-art engineering have made
anchors not only better, but lighter, too! In several real world
tests, including one conducted by the U.S. Navy, the best holding
anchors were actually among the lightest! Anchor design has more
effect on holding power than weight.
Myth: Steel is the strongest material for anchors.....
Fact: Not anymore! Many materials are now stronger than steel. For
example, high-tensile aluminum-magnesium alloy is well suited for
anchors and is, pound-for-pound, more than twice as strong as steel.
Myth: All anchors perform the same way.....
Fact: Not so! Different designs and different materials make anchors
perform very differently. When you consider the value of the boat an
anchor is protecting, (your boat!) an anchor is no place to
economize. It pays to get the best performing anchor you can.
Myth: Anchors that look alike, are alike.....
Fact: Looks can be deceiving. Technical designs, manufacturing
processes and metal alloys go through varying degrees of quality
control and some are just plain better. Be sure to look for
independent testing of holding power and approval from standards
organizations, indicated by "ABS Type Certification" (ABS is the
American Bureau of Shipping) or similar.
Myth: Just toss an anchor overboard, and you are anchored.....
Fact: It's not so simple. Your anchor is just one part of a total
anchoring system. It's made up of the anchor, chain, rope, shackles,
deck gear, and... your own anchoring skill and knowledge!

FAQ's
What are Fortress and Guardian Anchors made from?
Fortress Anchors are made from hardened high-tech aluminum magnesium
alloy. Fortress anchors are also anodized for a handsome and durable
finish.
What is the difference between a Fortress and a Guardian?
(1) Fortress is anodized, which is a chemically bonded coating. This
gives the Fortress Anchor greater corrosion resistance and a more
attractive appearance. Guardian anchors are not anodized.
(2) Fortress anchors have more precision machining done to the shank
and flukes, so they are sharper and better able to penetrate the sea
bottom deeper, and thus provide more holding power.
(3) Fortress anchors have two adjustable angles: 32° and 45° for soft
mud. Guardian has just the 32° angle.
(4) Fortress anchors have a Lifetime Parts Replacement Warranty,
Guardian anchors have a One Year Parts Replacement Warranty.
How much chain should I use?
The length of chain to be used depends on the depth of water in which
you are anchoring. If you are using the recommended 5 to 1 scope,
then you will have part of your anchor rode resting on the sea
bottom. We want to make sure that it is chain resting on the sea
bottom and not rope, which obviously can chafe.
Therefore, we recommend that for every 25' of water you are anchoring
in, you should use 6' of chain, which will be approximately the
length of the anchor rode that is resting on the sea bottom at that
water depth. So if you are in 50' of water, then use 12' of chain. If
you are in 100' of water, 24' of chain, etc.
Why should I use Mud Palms?
We have found from our research and from our customers that the Mud
Palms help the anchor to set faster in ANY bottom. Our advice is to
install the Mud Palms on the anchor and leave them on.
I would like to mount my anchor on the bow, or on a rail, or on the
deck. What parts are required?
Please see the links below for different anchor mounting hardware:
Deck Chocks - www.perko.com
Rail Mounts - www.windline.com

My anchor does not fit into the small anchor locker on my boat. Can I
cut the stock to make the anchor fit?
We do not recommend it. The stock is the perpendicular piece of the
anchor that your are referring to, and it is the "landing gear" for
the anchor. The stock helps to balance the anchor once it reaches the
sea bottom, and then the flukes fall forward and the anchor begins to
dig in and set.
How can I change the angle from 32 to 45 degrees?
Visit our 32 degree to 45 degree angle page to learn how to change
the angle of the anchor flukes.
